from a simple
Pre-Treatment Systems Preparation of the product surface before coating; with few exceptions, products need to be cleaned and prepared for coating; this may be the removal of oil and grease, rust or other contaminants. It may be needed to provide a key to promote adhesion; it may also be necessary to provide a guaranteed coating performance. At its simplest pre-treatment may mean wiping the product manually with a solvent; the product may require shot-blasting, or perhaps a chemical conversion coating. Much depends upon the product material; plastics may require treatment to remove surface tension, as well as oils, moulding release agents etc. And for metal the choice is also extensive; aluminium for example may need cleaning and etching, whereas ferrous metal will need cleaning and some form of protection to inhibit oxidisation (as a minimum requirement). Other than shot-blast, most surface treatments are wet, water-based solutions that are either sprayed onto, or the product is dipped into
